Receiving Healing from Authentic Affirmation - Part 2 of series
Psychiatrists Dr. Anna Terruwe and Dr. Conrad Baars defined Emotional Deprivation Disorder as a syndrome which results from a lack of authentic affirmation and emotional support in childhood.
A person with this arrested emotional development may appear to grow into a stable and intelligent adult, but if they have not sufficiently received affirmation in their childhood then their emotional life is more like that of a child. The person lacking from genuine affirmation tends to then bury their emotions and will protect themselves by using their intellect to relate to others.
This all leads to such deep emotional turmoil, uncertainty, and fear that life becomes grueling and joy unattainable. How can one receive authentic affirmation and find emotional wholeness to become the happy and unique person God created them to be?
Allison Ricciardi, LMHC provides suggestions in this Part 2 of series on Mind&Spirit on how to get started on the road to healing from a lack of affirmation.
