  • I have extensive experience working with individuals and couples struggling with behavioral, emotional, mental and relationship challenges who have the desire to live a better quality of life. Making the choice to seek counseling is not an easy decision; it takes courage and trust to allow someone else to help you process and solve the problems you may be experiencing.  I provide a nurturing environment where you will feel comfortable to share the issues with which you are struggling, as well as encouraging you to take an active role in your progress toward a life of peace.

As a graduate of Denver Seminary’s Counselor Licensure Master’s Program, I have expertise in the integration of faith-based principles with a person-centered therapeutic approach. Together, with the help of Our Lord, you will find healing.

More About Donna Schmidt, LPC

My over 18 years of experience in the counseling field has given me the privilege to serve veterans, the serious mentally ill, those that have been incarcerated, and those with substance use disorders.  I have served these individuals in a variety of settings, including private practice, vocational rehabilitation agencies, SMI clinics, IOP and intensive day treatment programs.  Over the past 8 years, I have worked in community mental health with the SMI population; primarily serving those with co-occurring disorders (SUD and mental illness) in a group treatment setting.  My positions in community mental health have include working as a clinician, manager and director.

My counseling philosophy is based on the person-centered therapeutic model, with the understanding that God is at the center of this work.  The modalities of treatment that I use are primarily CBT and REBT; however, I believe that God has endowed every person with a creative outlet of some kind.  In my experience I have incorporated the use of experiential and creative art as an adjunct to psychotherapy with positive results.
