Message from Therapist

My goal is to be able to offer Catholic clients (and those of other Christian faiths) counseling and psychotherapy that is consistent with their faith and values. I believe that one's' faith can profoundly impact psychological health and be an asset that supports healing. Because I work from a Catholic, faith-based approach, I would never offer counsel that would undermine your deeply held Christian values and I am committed to upholding the Church's teachings on Marriage, Family, Life, etc.

Please contact me for a free initial phone consultation.

Bio:
Malise Harold is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Louisiana. She received her Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Our Lady of Holy Cross College, now the University of Holy Cross, in August of 2013.

Before entering into the Mental Health Profession, Malise spent 10 years as a Catholic Missionary working in the education and formation of Catholic youth and families in the United States and Chile. During this time, Malise completed coursework towards a degree in Religious Sciences from the Pontifical University Regina Apostolorum, which included studies in both Philosophy and Theology.

During her first year as a Nationally Certified Counselor, Malise worked at Crescent City Counseling and in July of 2014 became the Director of Catholic Counseling Service of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Malise left this position in order to have more time for her family and develop her private practice.

Malise has spent close to 14 years working to integrate sound clinical practice and psychology with a Christian understanding of who man is. To this end, she has done extensive coursework and personal study in Rational Psychology, which is the philosophical psychology of St. Thomas Aquinas.

Malise resides in Metairie with her husband, her daughter, and her son.

More About Malise Harold, MA, LPC

MY APPROACH:

Many people want their counselor to know and share their basic core beliefs and feel supported on their journey to lessen the distance between their values and behaviors. The main difference between going to a secular counselor or to a faith-based one is that, with the latter, you know my core values and may come to work with me because you share them. I believe that counseling and psychotherapy can be most effective when using one’s core values and the strength of one’s faith. Since I work from a Catholic faith-based model, I am also letting my clients know that I accept the teachings of the Catholic Church.

I work with my clients using a cognitive-behavioral approach in order to explore thought patterns and perspectives that may be keeping the individual caught in an unhealthy place. I help clients challenge their perspectives and develop new healthier ones. I also work with virtue building to help clients become the best and happiest versions of themselves.
