Message from Therapist

I believe that we all have gifts that we can share at any age and God wishes us to experience joy in life. We are all made in his image and we are meant to help each other. I believe that the Holy Spirit can guide us in our connection with others.

I believe that psychotherapy for couples, children, adults and families requires active and consistent involvement; and honesty and openness to change. Therapy can be a spiritual, biological, psychological, and social process. Each of these areas will be explored as appropriate to the degree that is necessary to meet your goals.

I have experience in a strength-based, multicultural, client centered and family system approaches. I have experience in treating difficult relationships, mood disorders, behavioral problems, attachment issues, parenting concerns, and trauma.

I have many years of training and decades of experience working with couples, families, and persons between the ages of 13 to 18 years, and single adults who exhibit symptoms of depression, high anxiety, behavioral problems, and trauma.

I am trained in the use of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy for couples, Trauma Focused therapies and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for individuals. I have over 13 years experience in advocating for families in schools and community resources; 10+ years assisting couples; and 8 years of mental health therapy for children, teens, and parents.

I have a strong Catholic background. I was born and raised a Catholic. I attend Church weekly and am active in my local parish.

More About Theresa Strutynski, LMFT

I received my initial Psychology Degree from the University of Washington and was involved with social programs that assisted homeless individuals and families. I then went back to receive my Masters in Psychology at Antioch University in Seattle Marriage and Family Therapy License so that I could assist couples and adolescents in a different way. I have specialized training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples; and Trauma Related CBT/ Play therapy/ Attachment Therapy for adults and adolescents suffering from depression, anxiety and other mental health concerns. I continue to stay updated in both individual, couple and family therapies through ongoing learning opportunities.

I worked 10+ years in Catholic Community Services programs for the homeless individuals and families, 8 years working as a counselor in multiple schools for the Community in Schools Program. I volunteered to work with premarital couples in my Church for eight years and I have been meeting with couples in my private practice for the last 8 years.

When I work with an adolescent, an adult, or a couple, I consider the interactions between people that may contribute to a problem’s origin, as well as the human relationships which can assist in resolving a problem. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process that can bring about change only in a safe, supportive, and confidential environment. It is very important that we work together to meet your needs. You are the expert on you and your family.

Couples therapy requires active and consistent involvement, honesty, and openness for change to occur. Therapy is a process. Therapy can be difficult. During treatment, clients may feel worse at times while confronting painful or uncomfortable issues due to varying nature and severity of problems. My initial focus is always to save the relationship.

I was baptized as a baby into the Catholic Church, went to Catholic Schools, and I am still a practicing Catholic.
