I am a practicing Catholic with a license for mental health counseling in the state of Texas. I am eager to help you with any difficulty that you may be facing. In my professional experience, I provide psychotherapy to adolescent and adult individuals for a wide range of difficulties and issues. I also help with marital counseling and provide family therapy. I specialize working with depression, anxiety, trauma, family issues, relationship conflicts, ADD/ADHD, life changes, and vocational challenges.

My approach to counseling incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Interventions. Along with these therapeutic approaches, I have been integrating the research and findings from the most prestigious Catholic mental health professionals in the last 50 years, including Dr. Conrad Baars, Dr. Anna Terruwe, and Father Chad Ripperger. All of these experts base their psychological practice on the teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas and authentic Catholic spirituality. Both the Catholic faith and the latest research on evidence-based intervention provide what Catholics need to overcome any psychological difficulty or mental health disorder.

I am here to offer you the support that you need and to provide you with professional guidance. My goal is always to help you find the strength that will sustain you for a lifetime.

Practice Info

Bio:
Ivan Navarro is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas who has worked with clients of all ages and of many different backgrounds. He has provided counseling to young people in private practice, residential treatment centers, psychiatric hospitals, and Catholic organizations such as Catholic Charities and the University of St. Thomas. He also has experience counseling Catholic priests and consecrated religious.

Ivan offers counseling sessions incorporating a variety of therapeutic techniques. He uses approaches to psychotherapy from rational psychology, as presented by Dr. Conrad W. Baars and Dr. Anna Terruwe, which uphold Church’s teachings. In his practice, Ivan also incorporates Viktor Frankl’s logotherapy, as part of the school of existential therapy. His practice, therefore, integrates the ethics and anthropology of St. Thomas Aquinas, with more recent interventions that promote the pursuit for meaning. A will to meaning in life, according to Frankl, is more important than focusing on pleasures. A focus on pleasures, after all, can turn into a distraction from both the search for meaning and the virtues that lead to a psychologically healthy life. In all these manners and forms, Ivan successfully assists individuals to become emotionally stronger, helps them to overcome symptoms related to mental health disorders, and offers ways to prevent mental illness.

Ivan has extensive years of experience working with individuals who struggle with depression, anxiety, suicidality, self-harm, trauma, family issues, relationship conflicts, life changes, and vocational challenges.

Ivan obtained a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from Rivier University, a Catholic institution in New England. He also completed a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a Minor in Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas and a Bachelor of Divinity in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. Currently, Ivan is obtaining a Doctorate of Education in Ethical Leadership.
