Message from Therapist

Getting started in therapy can be intimidating. I'm so glad you are taking the first step in looking for a good Catholic therapist. I work hard to provide evidenced-based treatments, offered from a perspective that is faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church, while loving and caring for each client as a whole person.

It's so important that you feel comfortable with your therapist; if you have any questions for me, or just want to chat and see if we are a good fit, please give me a call!

Bio:
I graduated with honors from Moody Theological Seminary & Graduate School in 2013 with a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology. At Moody, I did not just learn counseling skills, but how to integrate psychology and theology - thinking psychologically about theology and theologically about psychology.

In the years since graduating, I have worked as an in-home autism therapist and as an outpatient mental health therapist in both Christian non-profit and public Community Mental Health (CMH) settings. In 2016, I spent 6 months in India, teaching a counseling skills class and helping to start a crisis counseling center. Most recently, I worked as a Crisis Services therapist in Lansing, MI.

In 2017, after a great deal of prayer and study, I joined the Roman Catholic Church. I take great joy in studying and growing in my Catholic faith. I have been involved in youth and young adult ministry and currently teach middle school catechism at St Mary Cathedral, and serve on the parish council.

More About Emily McJones, MA, LLP

Often in counseling there is a tendency to err in one of two directions: therapists are either so focused on providing evidence-based treatment that they neglect the impact of spiritual matters in a client's mental and emotional health, or they are so focused on the spiritual that they neglect the good, sound interventions which have come from decades of psychological research.

At Little Flower Counseling, my mission is always to integrate tried and true psychotherapy techniques with the life-giving truth that comes from Jesus Christ and His Church. I've found this to be the greatest recipe for success in therapy.
