There are many reasons why you might be looking for a counselor, but the search always involves a certain amount of courage and humility. Maybe things in life are not turning out as you've planned; or, you've woken up with a hangover three too many times or you can't quite kick your late night consumption of an endless scroll of pornography; or, perhaps, you've never quite gotten past the death of a loved one or a choice made during a heated conflict of war. Perhaps your fighting with your spouse, struggling to discern your vocation, or a myriad of other possibilities; whatever brings you, I commend your brave and humble beginning.

As a Catholic counselor, I have a passion for integrating the whole person- mind, body, and soul- in order to heal the lasting effects on well-being from the chronic stress of a turbulent childhood and/or traumatic experiences early on or later in life for combat veterans, service-members, first-responders, and the psychological needs of the Catholic community.

Bio:
Gabriel L.M. Crawford is a husband, a father of four children, and a licensed mental health counselor in the state of Washington. He is the founder of St. George Counseling, a faith-based clinic that enhances mental health care through physical fitness and the outdoors for combat veterans, service-members, first-responders, and the local Catholic and Christian community in Kitsap County. He is an armchair philosopher and theologian with a furious gratitude for the redemptive work of Jesus in his life and family.

Gabriel is a convert to Christianity through a vibrant Presbyterian youth ministry in Pittsburgh, PA. He studied theology and the scriptures at Geneva College and then his Master’s of Divinity at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. As the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were settling in, Gabriel enlisted in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in 2004, joining the military police corps. Eight years later, he converted to Roman Catholicism, lived a life of devotion inspired by St. Charles de Foucauld, attempted to help form an oratory of St. Philip Neri in San Francisco, and spent one year in the diocesean seminary studying philosophy at Duquesne University. Discerning a call to marriage and the courageous invitation to deeply engage his own childhood trauma and abuse, Gabriel finally entered into his vocation as a husband, father, and counselor. He received his Master’s in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology with a concentration in Trauma & Abuse through The Allender Center.

From such experiences and more, the St. George Counseling Clinic was born. The protector of soldiers of all types on and off the battlefield.

More About Gabriel Crawford, MDiv, MA, LMHCA

St. George Counseling:

A faith based therapy clinic that enhances mental health care through physical fitness and the outdoors for combat veterans, service members, first-responders, and the local Catholic and Christian community.

We serve warriors of all types: from combat veterans, to the active military, and those throughout our community suffering from unseen wounds. Well-trained to engage the complexities of trauma and abuse through the prestigious Allender Center, our practitioners will accompany you toward true healing and integration of your whole person: body, mind, and soul. Our therapeutic methods are enhanced by the best evidenced-based, scientific insights into physical fitness and the outdoors to unravel the grip trauma has on your life.

Individual & Couples Therapy:

Counselors at Saint George Counseling Clinic see children, adolescents, adults, and couples. We prioritize our services for combat veterans, current military and family, first responders, and the local Catholic & Christian community. Although our counselors are trained to engage stories of trauma and abuse as our primary specialty, they also work with other mental health concerns.

Eco-Therapy:

Eco-Therapy takes traditional psychotherapy outside, employing the beauty of the natural world as a critical dynamic for human flourishing and improving mental health. St. George Counseling Clinic currently offers "walk & talk" sessions at Illahee Preserve and "canoe counseling" in the Puget Sound at Illahee State Park when the weather allows.

Story Work- Individual & Groups:

Life is a “vale of tears,” and suffering is inevitable, and we often treat our wounds as if they really aren’t that serious. When we treat our heartache as not that serious, our pain becomes sediment in the bottom of our hearts, impacting every aspect of our lives and our relationships. Unaddressed suffering is a callus on our love and hinders our becoming saints. Story work is a bold and creative endeavor in which we bring our stories of harm to a group of wise peacemakers. Story work is a process of healing; a renewed encounter with our heartache; a holy work in which others can read well our hidden stories; and a tending opportunity for the glory of God to shine forth in the healing of our wounds. It is the unfolding of the story of God in the continued story of our lives.
