More About Jennifer Ahearn, MS, Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern

In my work as a therapist, I embody the characteristics of an effective counselor, which is warm, empathetic, and compassionate, helping clients to find the best version of themselves today.  Sometimes that means just taking 'the next best step'. Embracing suffering in my own life and walking the path and striving for holiness, I am better able to help clients find meaning and purpose in their life. I have applied the counseling lens to my own life and have grown tremendously while pursing my education. God states in The Bible: 'I have come to bring them life and life abundantly' (Jn 10:10) as well as 'encourage others with the same encouragement that you have received' (2 cor 1:4).

Using an integration approach and evidence-based interventions, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, and mindfulness, I work with clients to discover their own pathways to healing. Each person is a unique and unrepeatable mystery only fully revealed in the eyes of God and has an innate desire for growth and healing. Based on the Catholic-Christian Meta-Model of the Person, there is a 'freedom for excellence' found at the mean between deficit and excess (Vitz, Nordling, & Titus, 2020).  Therefore, using the cardinal and theological virtues, collaborative treatment plans can be created and flourishing attained.

Couples are welcome to discover fresh and new insights about each other, increase communication and effective conflict management skills and increase friendship, intimacy, and fondness/appreciation.  Through the 40 years of research of Drs.John and Julie Gottman, couples will have a clear understanding of what healthy functional relationship 'masters' are doing rather than what unhealthy relationships are doing.  Identifying couples strengths and weaknesses, targeted interventions are used to build stronger and healthier relationships.

If trauma is a concern or performance-based growth is sought, I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and can work on healing trauma and/or integrating future mapping of desired behaviors. This approach is also used to treat anxiety and phobias. St. Irenaeus stated that 'the glory of God is the human person fully alive' and this treatment aligns and works towards this goal.
