Message from Therapist

Do you find yourself having too many days feeling frustrated, sad, or alone, too many problems in your relationships, or life has left you with unresolved feelings? For over 15 years I have been helping people improve their relationships, overcome emotional and psychological difficulties, and move into living fully.

With the divine gift of our life, our inherent survival instincts and natural tendencies motivate us to yearn to be close to our Savior and to strive for wellbeing. Cultivating and maintaining mental health is accomplished with a process of healthy habits and practices on a regular basis, including spiritual practices of daily prayer and meditation.

Good therapy involves having a positive connection of mutual authenticity, respect and trust with your therapist. Listening and exploring with a warm, caring and attentive style is my approach to helping each individual and unique person. My goal is helping people heal and grow from their problems, improve their relationships, and live life on their own terms. I provide support for clients who face a range of issues involving life changes, relationships issues,  grief/loss, trauma, and coping with anxiety, stress, anger and depression.

Counseling and Ecotherapy are services people get most benefit from by fully engaging in the process. We will work together to identify and promote what needs to change for you to live a more fulfilling life.

Walking and talking is one of many Ecotherapy approaches to counseling outdoors in nature. It’s not suited for everyone, and is not appropriate for every type of therapy issue. We will discuss taking therapy on the trail during the intake phase to determine whether it is a treatment approach that works for you.

For information or scheduling an appointment, contact me by email or phone. Looking forward to walking and talking with you!

Ecotherapy: 'walk and talk' counseling outdoors in nature.

Ecotherapy is the application of Ecopsychology, the study of the relationship between human beings and our natural environment, through ecological and psychological principles. Ecotherapy seeks to develop and understand ways of cultivating the ‘foundational attachment’ with our natural environment. In remedying alienation from nature, deeply engaging in conscious “Nature-Human” relationship, Ecotherapy can address emotional, relational and mental suffering, guiding us in satisfactorily living out our lives in our contemporary society. Through this therapeutic modality, there is great potential for the further development and deepening one's healthy attachment, understanding and relationship with Christ.

More About Kelly Kilcoyne, MA, LMFT

What is Mental Health?

What Does it Mean to be Mentally Healthy?

Mental Health and wellness can actually be quite simple.  It pertains to your functioning and interacting within the world; can you carry on day after day, interacting with others while dealing with stress, conflict, or problems?

Here are some questions to help you consider the status of your mental wellbeing:

  • Can you make and maintain relationships with your peers?
  • Are you functioning well and feeling satisfied with your work or school performance?
  • Can you be humorous?
  • Are you able to adapt and change when necessary?
  • Do you like yourself?
  • Can you identify your strengths and weaknesses?
  • Can you deal with conflict?
  • Do you have a variety of coping strategies to draw on when you’re stressed?
  • Can you accept responsibility for your actions?
  • Can you problem solve?
  • Are you able to reason and think clearly?
  • Do you have insight into what’s happening to you or around you?
  • Are you able to make judgments about your choices and what is best for a situation?
  • Have you contemplated questions about the purpose of life?
  • Do you have self-control over your emotions and behavior?

With the divine gift of our life, our inherent survival instincts and natural tendencies motivate us to yearn to be close to our Savior and to strive for wellbeing.   Cultivating and maintaining mental health is accomplished with a process of healthy habits and practices on a regular basis, of daily prayer and meditation.

We all move in and out and along a continuum of both mental and physical wellness. Asking yourself these questions helps you understand where you currently are on that continuum.  Where do you see yourself?  Reach out if you’re in need of assistance through counseling.
