Message from Therapist

I use a gentle, thoughtful, collaborative approach with an emphasis on integrating the spiritual life and emotional growth throughout the telling of your story.

I employ a variety of techniques depending on the issues at hand and what works best for each client. I have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Lifespan Integration, and Narrative Therapy. Mainly, I like to get to the heart of each problem by examining emotions, thoughts, and behaviors and other factors that have shaped them. From there, we can explore better ways of thriving, so you can be on your path to wholeness.

I look forward to getting to know you!

Practice Info

Bio:
Maria De Bruyn, MA, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). She received her Bachelors degree in Spanish from University of Dallas and a Masters degree in Counseling from Northwest University.

Maria worked with severely mentally ill adults during her internship. As a behavioral health outreach provider, Maria was able to learn more about mental health needs in a rural setting. She gained extensive experience working with Wraparound Intensive Services until May 2020, providing child and family therapy to at-risk families.

Maria started her own private practice, San Juan Counseling, to be able to offer counseling that integrated Catholic faith with psychological principles. Because Maria works on a somewhat remote island, her practice is mainly done through video or phone counseling.

More About Maria De Bruyn, MA, LMHC

I am currently accepting clients. I work with children, adolescents, individual adults, couples, and families. I incorporate a wide variety of techniques, depending on the needs of the client. I specialize in an attachment and emotion-based framework, but will often use collaborative problem-solving and cognitive therapy for more practical issues. I also like to explore issues of culture and family to gain greater insight into your personal struggles.

I help people who have previously been affected by narcissistic abuse in their lives. I do not work with clients who are currently in an abusive environment.

I also have experience working with anxiety, depression, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. I have experience working with a wide array of children and teen issues such as family conflict, school problems, attachment issues, Autism Spectrum Disorder, anxiety, depression, sensory issues, etc.

Currently, I am seeing clients via telehealth only as I prepare for a move next year.
