Message from Therapist

Hello, my name is Mia. I have obtained my master's degree in clinical social work (concentration in mental health counseling) and am a Registered Clinical Social Worker Intern (RCSWI) in the state of Florida.

Is something holding you back from accomplishing your goals in life? Do you have emotions that you want to better understand? I want to help you to better understand yourself and make goals for your future so that you can be at your full potential! I have extensive experience working with adults, children, teens, couples and families on a wide range of issues. I have worked in private practice as well as in higher education at Saint Leo University in their Accessibility Services department, supporting students with disabilities. I worked with students who had diagnoses such as anxiety, autism, and ADHD. I also led the Autism Connect program which provides individualized mentorship and advocacy for teens and young adults with autism.  Additionally, I have experience working with clients with chronic illnesses. I am also a painter and musician and believe that art and creative expression can be healing, and even a part of our sessions if requested.

Being Catholic is an important part of my life. For clients who request it, I can apply Catholic faith-based counseling into sessions.

My approach to therapy is client-centered and will depend on the client’s needs and goals. Some of the modalities that I use are cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy. Together we can look at the problems you are experiencing in a new way and give you tools to work through them. It is also very important to me to connect with my clients and create a safe space for them. I look forward to accompanying you on your healing journey!

More About Mia Perez, MSW, RCSWI

Do you feel like you have no control over your life? Like you are never able to relax even when there is nothing to do? Do you feel like you are so caught up in anxiety and stress that you are not able to enjoy the present moment? Or perhaps you are missing out on experiences because of physical or mental health?

I use a CBT-based protocol that can help you overcome these obstacles. Together we can build your skills and work on specific strategies to use outside of therapy so that you can live the life you have imagined for yourself.

Along with specializing in Relationship Issues, Autism Spectrum, ADHD, Behavioral Issues, and working with those suffering Chronic Health Issues, I also specialize in Anxiety and use a CBT protocol to help my clients control their anxiety instead of having anxiety controlling them. Additionally, I am trained in trauma-informed care and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

When life is overwhelming, it is helpful to have a safe person to talk to as well as someone with an outside viewpoint to look at things in a different way. I believe in working together with you, as the client, to accomplish your goals and catering my approach to your needs.

The therapeutic relationship should be healing, and I strive to create a safe and trusting environment for clients to grow in. Reaching out is the first step on your healing journey!
