How may I may be helpful to you?
Let me first share with you about me: I was raised in a traditional Catholic family with grade one through first year college (Marygrove) in Catholic school settings. However, while living abroad within the context of an Air Force marriage, for a number of years I stepped outside of the practice of Faith, though still ever seeking core spirituality.
Life experiences which shaped my mature return to Catholicism included the illness and death of my youngest daughter at age 26, with resultant guardianship and adoption of her biracial toddler daughter, participation in RCIA with that little one, then with my late husband, and subsequently my husband’s death several years later.
By this point in time, I had earned my MSW, was in private practice, had taught in the Social of Social Work at Wayne State and University of Detroit, as well as served as faculty advisor and field instructor for graduate social work students. I had earned additional training in Hypnotherapy and certification to practice CranioSacral therapy, which provides an integrative body/mind/emotional approach to healing work. I was in the post-graduate Hospice and Palliative care program at Madonna University until my husband’s death, and began work as a Hospice Social Worker one day after the one year anniversary of his death, and did so for the next ten years.
I share all this by way of letting you know that it isn’t what happens to us that defines us, but how we process these experiences. Each and every experience has a place in the story of our life. With much support and prayer, it has become clear to me that these events and experiences have shaped not only the practice I provide but the person I bring to the therapy setting.
