Message from Therapist

Hello! Welcome to Irvine Family Counseling. My name is Monica Huston and I provide counseling services for individuals, couples and families.

As a faith-based therapist, I do not pathologize issues which are spiritual and I do not spiritualize issues which are pathological. Rather, I distinguish spiritual issues from psychological issues and treat each according to their nature. Whether my clients are faith-based or not, I help them to achieve good mental health as I do believe all individuals are made in the image and likeness of God, and deserve good mental health.

See the "Catholic" page on my website to learn more about how I practice as a faith-based therapist.

I look forward to meeting you!

More About Monica Huston, MA, LMFT

Those responsible for the spiritual care of others will run into issues that seem pathological, and those responsible for the psychological care of others will run into issues that seem spiritual. The mind and spirit are entangled. The human person grapples with problems of religious-identity, meaning and purpose within situational circumstances and cultural, historical contexts. There will always be a psychological response to what is spiritually rooted, and a spiritual response to what is psychologically caused. Insofar as all Truth is one- that the same God who designed spiritual health also designed mental health- psychological healing does not contradict spiritual progress but may complement it.
