Message from Therapist

Hello. Making the decision to seek counseling is not always an easy one. However, I believe that you are reading this because of a prompting from the Holy Spirit which is rooted in Jesus's desire to heal some painful or difficult place in your heart or in an important relationship. I believe in the happy and fruitful marriage of the Sacraments, the teachings of Holy Mother Church, prayer, and counseling. These can work in beautiful conjunction with one another to help individuals and couples in healing, seeking and finding peace, and in growing in holiness, which is our ultimate goal and purpose. Please feel free to reach out to set up a chat to see if I would be a good fit for your counseling needs.

In Christ,
Nissa

Bio:
Hi, Welcome! My name is Nissa. My Catholic faith is an central to who I am. I practice my faith through regular reception of the Sacraments, daily mental prayer, (attempted) daily self sacrifice (I require a lot of grace for this one!), facilitating small groups in my Parish and my own spiritual direction.

Our faith teaches us that marriage too is a Sacrament, meaning that there is actual grace in a Sacramental marriage. This grace is what assists husbands and wives to live out marriage joyfully, sacrificially, and lovingly. However, we are still Fallen creatures so even with the grace present in a Sacramental marriage we suffer from concupiscence, the propensity towards selfishness and sin, which causes us to wound each other. So, marriage is both the vehicle for deep wounds, and for profound healing. I practice a form of therapy that is marriage friendly (https://indivisiblecouples.com/faqs/) so my aim is always to help you reconnect, heal, and love being married, not to help you “figure out if you are compatible” or if you should divorce.

I am passionate about helping people save their marriages because marriage is the foundation of the family and the family is the foundation of society and culture. EFT is an effective, efficient way to help people not only survive marriage, but thrive in marriage.

While I am passionate about marriage therapy, and I truly believe that most powerful agent for change in the family is the marriage, I know that sometimes marriage therapy is not always possible or desirable. I also work with women who want to work individually. Sometimes women want to work on relationship issues, friendship issues or feelings of loneliness, or difficulties related to sense of being overwhelmed with the nosiness, busyness, and demands of modern life. Oftentimes women desire a quiet place to talk about their lives, themselves, and how they can grow closer to our Lord, how they can deepen their prayer life, and how they can have the peace that Jesus promises us in John 14:27 (RSVCE) when he says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

So whether you want to work with you beloved husband or wife because you are hurting in your marriage right now, or you are a woman who desires a quiet place to talk about the deep or painful areas in your heart and soul, reach out to me today.

More About Nissa Chadwick, MA, LMFT

Providing teletherapy services for Marriages and Adult Individuals from a faith-based perspective for those who reside in Colorado and in New Mexico.

My name is Nissa Chadwick.  I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of New Mexico and also in Colorado.

I graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy with an Emphasis in Religious Studies. Upon graduating I worked in child protection and became convinced that the difficulties that families had were primarily related to damaged attachment relationships.  Sometimes these patterns of damage went back generations but there seemed too few means of healing these patterns.

After working in child protection for a couple of years I returned to school and obtained my Master’s Degree in Community Counseling with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Northern Colorado.  I then began working as a Marriage and Family Therapist at a residential treatment center for children ages 4 to 12.  My beliefs about the primacy of attachment in mental health, for better or worse, were further solidified.  After a few years of working with kids and their families in residential treatment I had my daughter and left my position.

For over the past ten years, I have been teaching graduate level counseling and undergraduate psychology courses online which is what I have done since. I have taught at four Universities, three for most of the last ten years.  I teach courses ranging from Marriage and Family Therapy, Advanced Family Systems Theory, Diversity in Family Systems, Diversity in Counseling, to Life Span Development and many more.  I have continually taught my students about the primacy of attachment and the necessity of helping families by helping marriages first and foremost.
