Message from Therapist

Are you or a loved one challenged by anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship issues?  Are you missing a sense of peace, joy, or well-being in your life?  And do you want counseling grounded in a Catholic understanding of the human person?  I am here to help you.  

I am passionate about accompanying those who struggle with poor self-esteem--those who cannot see their unique worth--to learn that they are beloved children of God.  I work to help individuals remove their psychological barriers from seeing God as He really is, whether from scrupulosity, perfectionism, abandonment, mistrust, etc.

In sessions, we can focus on coping with the day-to-day symptoms that trouble you.  This can also be a space to process emotions and to feel seen and heard for what you struggle with each day.  In addition to focusing on the symptoms you present to me in session, we can work towards discovering and healing the deeper root of what has caused these issues in the first place. 

I also work with couples who desire deeper communication and intimacy with one another.  I mostly work with adult individuals and couples, but I also work with adolescents (ages 14-17).

Bio:
I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology in 2015 from Ball State University. I was a college campus missionary for two and a half years after that. That experience helped me develop a greater passion for my faith, but I also became more deeply aware of the suffering and need for healing of those I served.

Following that, I received my Master of Science in Counseling from Divine Mercy University in May of 2021. This is a Catholic university based on incorporating faith and psychology to help heal the whole human person. While at DMU, I earned certifications from the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) pertaining to addiction treatment. I also received certifications from the Green Cross Academy pertaining to trauma treatment.

While in graduate school, I worked as a Clinician on an inpatient unit at Community Behavioral Health Pavilion. In my work there, I found a passion in helping those who have low self-esteem or have trouble seeing their unique worth. I also interned as a therapist with Catholic Charities and gained experience helping to counsel women in a domestic violence shelter.

Following my graduate degree, I started working in private practice at Secure Foundations, a Catholic practice in Indianapolis. We worked to remove psychological barriers that got in the way of a person’s relationship with Jesus and Mary. Continuing with my desire to work in a Catholic practice, I now work at Central Psychological Services, LLC, which is an all Catholic therapy practice located on the south side of Indianapolis.

I attended and completed a Foundational Experience Group, which helped me learn the basic concepts of Internal Family Systems and practice them in an experiential capacity. I completed Level 1 Training for Internal Family Systems.

I am a member of the Catholic Psychotherapy Association. Aside from my passion for counseling, I also enjoy doing puzzles, baking homemade fudge, going on walks, cooking, playing board games, camping, and spending time with my friends and family.

More About Rachel Smith, MS, LMHC

I see each of my clients as individuals created in the image and likeness of God.  I treat my clients as a whole human person – mind, body, and spirit.  I want to help them flourish in all aspects of their lives.  I believe each person has the capacity to grow and heal towards true freedom and joy.  I like to help clients work to find and resolve the deeper roots of their symptoms.

I work with adult individuals and adolescents (ages 14-18) and also with couples.  As a Catholic Christian, I am able and willing to incorporate faith and prayer into therapy, according to what clients are seeking.  I believe that God can work so much in our suffering to help lead us to healing.  I see myself as an instrument that He can use to help facilitate the joy and freedom that He desires for you.  I pray for each of my clients by name, and I have witnessed His healing work in their lives.
