Message from Therapist

The most influential professional mentor in my life was a Catholic psychologist who not only strengthened my skills as a clinician but most notably taught me the benefit of thinking more precisely about my Catholic faith - which today informs my world view.  As a result, the work I do with clients, of all faiths, has been greatly enriched.

When therapists avoid talking to their clients about their faith, whatever it may be, even none, they lose an ideal opportunity to help the client clarify who they really are  because a person's regard toward their own spiritual beliefs is a crucial part of themselves.  We must all understand ourselves on a deeper level so that we may make choices consistent with our personal values. It is when we live outside of those standards, our personal conscience, that we stumble and make bad choices which can be life altering.

More About Susan Bove, LCSW, BCD

I believe the purpose of therapy is to help the client remove blocks interfering in their ability to truly know themselves. Often irrational beliefs developed in childhood (I'm stupid, not lovable, have to be perfect, I'm inadequate, I'm responsible for the feelings and happiness  of others, it's my fault, etc...) become the engine that drives the person to make poor choices, interferes in relationships, leads to depression, anxiety and self defeat.  Ultimately, healing deep wounds enhances self knowledge and self worth and also allows for the necessary integration of mind, body and spirit.  Working with a therapist who understands the need to heal deep wounds rather than focus only on surface issues is critical.

I am a highly interactive therapist with over 40 years of experience. My clients often have expressed gratitude for the fact that they have progressed faster and gone deeper in their therapy with me than with any other therapist. It is my privilege and honor to be a therapist. I embrace my work with clients as a gift God has given me and a way for me to serve Him.
