Message from Therapist

I began my work within the mental health field at Catholic Charities, and upon receiving my degrees and licensure, began to work in other non-profit areas until entering into a private practice setting within a Christian faith-based mental health group in 2019. I work from a strengths-based approach, and utilize various therapeutic techniques to meet clients "where they are" rather than assuming a "one size fits all" approach. I work with clients from many different backgrounds and belief systems, and am culturally sensitive to ensure dignity for all persons. I genuinely enjoy the opportunity from a Catholic faith perspective, serving those in need through healthy therapeutic interventions.

I provide in-person sessions at my office location for individual therapy and family/couples therapy. I also provide therapy and counseling services by Telehealth to residents in Oklahoma. Please note, however, that initial appointments must be in-person where we determine if Telehealth is appropriate given one's needs. I work with individuals, male and female, age 14 and older.

In addition to mental health, I have a background working with individuals struggling with addiction. Although not my primary focus in my current practice, I often support family members, spouses, and friends of people experiencing addiction. I also work with individuals that seek to maintain their recovery from addiction.

My goal is to utilize therapeutic approaches with Faith-based counseling to assist each of my clients in unlocking hope and work toward a better overall quality of life.

IMPORTANT NOTE RE: Couples/Marital Therapy:  Prior to consenting to couples/marital counseling, I prefer to discuss the goals and level of commitment with the couple ahead of time to get a sense of the needs and willingness of both individuals. I only agree to couples/marital therapy on a case-by-case basis after discussing these things with the couple, and discerning if I am the best fit. I am also happy to make referrals as needed.

Bio:
Christine “Chris” Monteith is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Alcohol, Drug, and Mental Health Counselor (LADC/MH) in private practice. After spending many years in the corporate world, she felt called to something greater, and sought a means of helping others. Chris received her bachelor’s degree in social work at Oral Roberts University and immediately pursued her master’s degree in social work at the University of Oklahoma.

Once her master’s degree was completed, she began working for the agency where she finished her internship, Family & Children's Services. While there, Chris worked with a range of disorders including individuals suffering with depression, anxiety, PTSD, personality disorders, co-occurring disorders, and some struggling with varying degrees of psychosis. She also worked with those struggling generally with emotional dysregulation, which occurs throughout many different diagnoses.

Chris moved into private practice at Strength of Mind Behavioral Health in 2019, where she has enjoyed continuing her work helping individuals focus on healing from a whole-person perspective. Chris has experience working with many diagnoses, which has prepared her to provide ongoing care to men and women suffering with mental health issues, some of whom develop negative coping responses when they feel at a loss to manage symptoms in other ways. She believes in a strengths-based approach, and other helpful techniques, which empower clients and provide a means of non-judgmental support.

Chris utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, solution focused therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy-informed care. She believes all persons have inherent dignity and worth endowed by God, regardless of their culture, beliefs, values, station in life, challenges experienced, etc. She works to provide individuals with hope through successful therapeutic interventions.

More About Christine Monteith, LCSW, LADC-MH

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Alcohol, Drug, and Mental Health Counselor (LADC/MH) in private practice at a Christian faith-based behavioral mental health group in Tulsa/Broken Arrow area. I previously worked in the business world until God provided me an incredible opportunity to change careers late in life, and pursue working in the helping field. My Catholic faith forms every aspect of my life, and I am blessed to work in an environment that allows me to openly serve others through that faith in a counseling setting.

My husband was ordained a Deacon in the Catholic Church in June 2023. We support one another in our ministries, which are separate and unique to us, individually. My faith guides me at home, in my relationships, and guides me in my practice by acknowledging each individual has been created by God with inherent worth and dignity. No matter the struggle, Christ laid down His life for us so we might have hope. I believe providing therapy for His people is one way to carry that hope forward.
