Message from Therapist

I am a "missionary kid"--my parents were evangelical missionaries to Brazil. Our own painful family problems were my inspiration to help others. Therapists must be compassionate first, and then add a high level of expertise, something that takes time. I became a therapist (LPC and clinical psychology) in 1992, and my PhD in 2016. I have helped many, many people overcome anxiety, anger, depression, and marriage problems, to achieve peace, stability, and success. I work with adults, families, and teenagers, and specialize in providing Thomist, Catholic-faith-based  solutions. I call my approach "UnCounseling" -- designed for people who hate the thought of counseling or psychotherapy.

I am a Lay Dominican, and the president and founder of St. Barnabas Reconciliation Ministries (stbarn.org), a non-profit Catholic counseling organization. Our mission is to reconcile families to each other, to reconcile religions to each other, and to reconcile all people to God.

I'm a convert to the Catholic faith, and a Lay Dominican. My parents were evangelical missionaries--I've lived in Mexico, Canada, Brazil, England, and Italy. More About Frederick Boley, PhD, LPC, OP

I am not a therap-y therapist. I subscribe to the older view of the world, though I use modern research and yes, I’m fully licensed. I call what I do “UnCounseling” because I reject the common worldview of Moralistic Therapeutic Deism (here’s a good short article, not my website, usual disclaimers: romancatholicman.com/wp/moralistic-therapeutic-deism/). I am very effective at reaching goals which are not the same as most secular therapy goals!

What I offer:

  • fastest possible results, given individual circumstances.
  • interaction with someone who strives to be as fully Catholic as possible.
  • broad perspective on life, literature, music, and philosophy.
  • interventions which I have kidnapped from cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, existential therapy, etc., etc., and which I have used for my own holier (hopefully) ends.

What I do not offer:

  • therap-y therapy.
  • long, awkward silences.
  • mother-blaming.

Nothing said herein is meant to disparage other therapists! But if you choose another therapist, please choose someone from this site. More "interesting" facts about me:

  • I am a convert from evangelicalism, via the Church of England.
  • My parents were evangelical missionaries in Brazil for many years.
  • I have lived in Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Italy, and England.
  • I am a Lay Dominican.
  • I am a singer in the schola.
  • I study St. Thomas Aquinas continuously.
  • I have degrees in psychology, clinical psychology, medieval English, and counselor education and supervision.
  • My non-profit, St. Barnabas Reconciliation Ministries, aims to foster reconciliation between all Christians and between all people and God.
